What Type Of Rest Serves You Best?

I recently found this great post above from @ninetypesco circulating around Instagram and it got me thinking.  What does rest actually mean to me?  What makes rest actually restful in a way that recharges my battery?  My go to is to assume I need to get to bed earlier, sleep in later, lay around on the couch, take a nap, etc.  But often, this doesn't actually recuperate me in any way.

Upon reflection, I have realized that what is restful for me depends on what is going on in my life.  Sometimes the only way I can relax is to go on vacation and literally remove myself from the responsibilities I am engrossed in on a daily basis.  Sometimes I just need an hour to be absolutely and utterly unproductive, slothful, and revel in procrastination.  At some point, I have needed to do everything on this list to get some rest and recovery in some shape or form.  And when I actually take the time to do it, my energy, attitude and, dare I say it, health all improve by leaps and bounds.

So today, on the first day of fall, I invite you to think about what type of rest serves you best and when.  Fall is a notoriously windy season, with lots of change, movement, activities, engagements, and other things swirling around on a daily basis.  In this season, self care, rest and staying grounded are imperative for your physical and emotional well being.

So, if you're up for it, I invite you to join me in a challenge: Take a moment now to schedule time for rest in your calendar.  If it's 10 minutes a week, great.  It it's 10 minutes a day, even better.  Start small if you need, and then if you can add on - do it!  No day better than today to commit to your self care for the season.

It's freaking hard, but you deserve it!

Happy first day of fall!
